PARTNERSHIPS

THE FIVE TYPES OF RAVEN TAKE FLIGHT PARTNERSHIPS

ADAPTATION (16-24 classes): A Raven teaching artist works with students to create a theatrical adaptation of a classic or popular children’s story or novel. (The residency culminates with a performance.)

DEVISED & ORIGINAL WORKS (24-32 classes): Guided by a Raven teaching artist, students will explore current events and community issues to create original works in order to empower student voice. Through the use of tableaux, writing, discussion and movement, students will create a performance piece that represents the specific themes identified at the onset of the unit.  (The residency culminates with a performance.)

SOCIAL JUSTICE (12-32 classes): Students analyze and/or perform one of two adapted scripts by Director of Education Mechelle Moe that deal with themes of social justice. Broken Text creates a platform to explore diverse experiences of men who have been incarcerated in the Illinois prison system. Our America: Ghetto Life 101 is based on two award-winning NPR documentaries of the same name which delve into the lives of two young men growing up in Chicago’s Ida B. Wells housing project. (Culminating performance is optional.)

PRODUCTION (24-32 classes): A Raven teaching artist partners with a classroom teacher to direct a full production of an already existing theatrical script. (The residency culminates with a performance.)
